P!TCH

P!TCH is an event for students to share their ideas, products, or businesses - or listen, connect, and be inspired.

Amsterdam Student Investment Fund is hosting its 3rd edition of the city's best event for entrepreneurial students.

This time, P!TCH will be hosted at Amsterdam's popular hub in tech & start-ups: TQ.

For this third edition, 5 students will take the stage to deliver an elevator pitch.

Do you have the ambition to grow your concept, project, or business? Do you want to be on our deal flow radar, find help from other students, or discuss your challenges?

TAKE THE STAGE!

Sign up (FREE!) here before January 26.

Pitches are delivered in English, with 5 minutes reserved for the speaker, and 5 minutes for follow-up questions from the audience. There will be additional room for discussion over drinks afterwards ;-)

The 5 selected pitches will be announced on January 29. Selection is based solely on diverse content, nothing else (those NOT selected will receive preference at next month's edition of P!TCH).

You can also join P!TCH just to listen, be inspired, and share your thoughts with others.

TIKKIE Strategy Night // ABN Amro Traineeship

What to do with 1 million users?

ABN AMRO has an app that solves the hassle of getting your friends to pay you back: Tikkie. Tikkie now has over a million users – that’s 6% of the Dutch population. Any entrepreneur’s intuition would scream: we have to do something with that! But on second thought, determining that ‘something’ is not as easy as it sounds. It’s time to put our learnings into practice and develop a strategy for Tikkie to move forward. We’ll meet Tikkie’s product development team and have some pizza’s at the ABN office at Leidsplein. Then we split up in teams, work on this real-life case, and finally pitch to find out who created the best business plan.

Strategy and complex business models in tech startups

Some companies have simple business models: build a product, market it, sell it. Peak Capital focusses on data, SaaS and market place startups, where it’s not always that simple. Johan will teach us on the strategy beyond the surface, from an investor’s point of view.

How to extract key investor insights from startup metrics?

As an investor, utilizing the small bit of data that young companies generate (sales, revenue, costs, growth…) is crucial, but far from trivial. What should we read in the numbers? Kyang has done dozens of deals of various types and sizes around the world, and will share his expertise.

How to assess the entrepreneurs behind the startup?

Any investors will tell you that, above all, they invest in people . You estimate the market of a product, see the potential in technology, analyse financial data – but how do you assess the entrepreneurs themselves? Ton is partner at Keadyn Ventures and founded multiple companies himself. His personal mission is to help 1 million entrepreneurs move forward before 2020. From his experience on both sides of the table, he’ll discuss the important aspects of a startup team.

Software development in a $1 billion startup - And what we can learn from the US

Thomer came to MIT to do his PhD in computer science, but never actually finished as he became the first employee and CTO of Meraki.

In 2012 this high-tech startup was sold to Cisco for $1.2 billion.

Now he's back in the Netherlands with a mission: transferring the US entrepreneurial spirit back to his home country.

He'll share his story, after which we can discuss anything from the challanges of scaling up software development, to why we should embrace failure to simply get started.
